What Is a Mattress Protector ?

A mattress protector, also known as an alez, is essentially a cover that protects your mattress. It is placed directly on top of the mattress before the bed sheet is laid over it. Its main purpose is to prevent the mattress from getting dirty over time. Mattress protectors are generally divided into two types: quilted and waterproof. Quilted protectors are designed for standard use and are made with a soft, cotton-like structure. Waterproof protectors, as the name suggests, prevent liquids from seeping into the mattress.

Waterproof mattress protectors consist of two layers. The top layer is made of cotton (usually terry cloth) to ensure comfort during sleep and reduce issues like sweating or noise. The bottom layer is made of waterproof polyester, which traps any liquid in the upper layer and prevents it from reaching the mattress. Waterproof protectors can be used not only on baby cribs but also on single and double beds.
